I find that I work better if I designate a day to cut as many quilt projects as I can and get them ready to sew. Even when I was sewing clothes I never worked well when I cut and immediately started on the project. I'm better when I am fresh when I sit down at the machine.
So today I plan to cut this stack of luscious Batik fat quarters for another Wicked Easy lap quilt. They were purchased last year when our Bee went to Mineola, Texas on retreat.
I will also start cutting charm squares for Impera Magna's D9P quilt-along. For this project we will be using the simple Disappearing Nine Patch pattern and I'll be cutting some of my dated Thimbleberries stash. I might add that there are no rules for this quilt-along, no time lines, and work at your own pace. If your are interested in joining this quilt-along you can find the rules (no rules) here.
The only other quilt-along I have joined recently is Terry's Treasures Whimsy quilt. You can find Terry's blog here.
Enjoy all the pieces of your life,

I don't trust myself to cut everything at once. After I make a test block it would be okay but my right shoulder hurts if I cut too long. Old surgery scars, etc.
When I was doing dressmaking, I'd cut everything out at night and then start sewing first thing in the morning. After messing with all the stuff for pinning patterns and cutting out and putting stuff away... didn't even want to look at my machine yet. I guess b/c cutting out was the least favorite part for me.
Thanks for the shout out for the QAL... I can't wait to see all the fabrics folks are using!
:)
I also like to make a sample block before cutting everything to make sure I like the block, the combination of fabrics, etc. Judy Martin, one of my favorite designers, recommends cutting and sewing each block individually. I admit that I don't do this. Once I'm satisfied with the block, I like to sew at least two blocks at a time to keep from breaking the thread too often.

I like to cut all my fabrics at one time to and hope I don't make a mistake! I had rather sit and sew when I begin.
Have a good weekend!
